My colleague Steph sent me a link to this really interesting article in the Ecologist about “Upcycling: 2011′s greenest decorating trend” which showcases some UK furniture boutiques that are doing excellent stuff! This just further spreads the word about upcycling!

The article highlights Cafe Direct (the UK’s largest 100% fairtrade hot drinks company) alongside UK designer Wayne Hemmingway last summer created a pop-up eco-home which toured UK festivals and events. The container house was created using entirely sustainable materials.

One awesome piece is an upcycled coffee sack covered chair from ReStore.

Hemmingway explains

Sustainability in furniture deisgn is an issues close to my heart and it’s been great to experiment with the used coffee sacks.

This led me to do some more searches of companies who are upcyling wonderful things!

I found a German company called Gabarage, who are awesome. I love their ‘drink and drive’ stool with storage space. Great for a house party!

And their ‘Keglevase’ which is bowling pin upcycled into a vase! I’d love to put my flowers in this!
